Our Story

Dear Amada Family,

Amada Birmingham is family owned and locally operated by Julie and Len Everts.

We are so thrilled that you are considering or have joined our Amada Family!
We believe passionately in our mission to:

  • Help seniors age with dignity in their homes
  • Support family caregivers assisting their loved ones
  • Create rewarding and meaningful work for our staff

These values guide everything we do and are born from our personal experiences.

Our desire to care for our own parents drove us to relocate from California to Birmingham AL, where Julie grew up and where her family resides. At the time, Julie’s mom was facing much needed hip surgery and
Julie’s stepfather was battling early-onset Alzheimer’s. We were confronted with the reality that you
can have plans for your life and suddenly need to go in an entirely new direction.

Our Experience on the Senior Care Journey

Larry, Julie’s stepfather, was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s at age 66. Although he was in prime physical condition, his life quickly changed as he had to give up driving and had to contend with other devasting effects of the disease. At 68, Larry contracted COVID and succumbed to his diagnosis. The entire family pitched in but could not have done it all without the support of trained in-home caregivers, home health aides and hospice workers. Larry showed everyone around him what courage looks like as he made choices about staying in his home until he, as he described it, “went on to his next adventure.” Caregiver support made all the difference as the personalized and compassionate care provided Larry peace of mind and preserved his sense of dignity up to his last days. Having in-home caregivers also alleviated some stress for the rest of the family as they grappled with the many challenges that come with palliative care and end-of-life care.

A few months later, Julie’s mother Pam underwent hip surgery even as she, too, recovered from the lingering effects of COVID. Again, the support of caregivers was transformative. Armed with information and assistance, our family felt fortunate to be able to care for her in the way she so richly deserved. Having witnessed firsthand the impact of highly skilled, compassionate, and exceptionally qualified support, we were inspired to do more so that other families could realize the same level of high-quality in-home care for their loved ones.

The Amada Difference

Seeing the difference excellent and compassionate in-home health care made in our family, we decided to commit our careers to bringing such care to others. We considered several in-home care franchise businesses and decided Amada Senior Care was exactly right for us. As franchise owners, we get to follow our passion for offering the excellent care and sincere compassion our family experienced to others. We want to help families navigate the senior care journey by offering complete home assessments, assistance in coordinating with doctors, providing trained and dedicated caregivers, and much more.

We also want to serve as a resource to families by providing solutions on how to cover the costs of in-home care for a loved one. We start by conducting a no-cost, expert review of policyholders’ long-term care insurance (LTCi). As long-term care insurance claims experts, we walk families through the completion of claims forms and handle all the paperwork, while making sure the benefits are being used to the greatest advantage. Rely on the Amada Birmingham team to serve as your personal senior care advocate by making referrals for needed care and services, providing up-to-date information and jumping into action when time is of the essence.

Following the Call to Serve Seniors, Families and Staff
