Amada Senior Care Pittsburgh

Joe Spehar and FamilyAmada Senior Care Pittsburgh is truly a family business, operated by Joe Spehar, his wife, Amber Spehar, and his sister-in-law, Shelly Spehar. This family has had significant experiences with in-home care for their own loved ones, which is what has motivated them to provide exceptional care for their senior clients in the Pittsburgh area, including North Huntingdon, Jeannette, Irwin, Herminie, Madison, West Newton, Connellsville, Monesson, Belle Vernon, Charleroi, Washington, Canonsburg, Bethel Park, Jefferson Hills, South Park, Mt Lebanon, West Mifflin, Penn Hills, Plum, Monroeville, Oakmont, Trafford, Export, Delmont, Greensburg, Hempfield Township, Perryopolis and the greater Pittsburgh area.

Joe says, “Both of my parents died of cancer. I remember the desperation and the helplessness we felt when we were trying to find home care for them. And I remember the amount of care and love their caregivers provided for them. We simply couldn’t give these caregivers enough hugs, couldn’t give them enough ‘thank-yous.’ And I knew at that time that I wanted to have the opportunity to give back, to do something just like that. Now, that’s what we provide at Amada Greater Pittsburgh. Let our family take care of your family.”

On top of their experiences as a member of a close family coping with the illness of two parents, Shelly Spehar has also worked in the healthcare industry for more than 25 years. Shelly says, “I see what caregivers do to enrich the lives of patients and their families, day after day. At Amada, we’d like to help you find caregivers of this quality. We provide a nurturing, caring environment that allows seniors to remain independent in the comfort of their own home.”

At Amada Senior Care Pittsburgh, we provide non-medical, in-home care, assisted living placement services, advisory services to help clients cover the cost of care, and whatever else your family needs to ease your worries and ensure your loved one is safe, comfortable and thriving.

Because, as you can see, caring for families is what we do best.

Great care!

We didn't know where to turn for night time help last year before my Dad passed in August. Through high recommendations from my Dad's hospice agency, we found the loving and compassionate Amada Senior Care. The best part was renewing friendships with Joe Spehar. My Dad knew some of Joe's family. It was truly God's hand in finding Amada. Joe came to our house, spent time with my Dad and my Mom and talked about some old times remembered in the little community where we lived. We had wonderful night time help for my Dad so my husband and I could get some much needed rest! Thank you Joe for matching us up with your gal Kim, who not only watched over my Dad, but also my Mom. Well, fast forward to June of this year..my Mom was once again in our care and we needed immediate help from Amada. My Mom was deteriorating quickly. I texted Joe on a Sat and by Monday night we had help from Carol, another great helper! My Mom passed on June 28, 2024. Joe was there for us again and just at the right time. Thank you, Joe, for your kind words, your kind heart, and your kind spirit!! You are such a busy guy, but you take the time to console, to encourage and to give of yourself so unconditionally!! We are forever grateful 🙂

Amada Senior Care for our Dad

Amada Senior Care is amazing! Joe is a super caring person who puts all his effort into helping our loved ones be able to stay in their homes in their elder years. We needed care for our father after he was in the hospital and rehab for a number of weeks. We set up home health but he needed extra care till he got stronger and Amada sent us the very best help for him. After that , we adjusted our care to his needs and Joe was right there to guide us. His Staff is amazing ,especially Kim, who was his caregiver for over 3 years. Amada care is family to us, very kind and concerned about our dad. I would definitely recommend this service they provide to give you and your loved ones peace of mind.

Amada Senior Care

So pleased with Amada Senior Care! Joe was our first contact and he was caring and helpful in accessing our needs. We scheduled a caregiver for my mother. She was personable and provided wonderful care. We will be using Amada in our future schedules and we definitely recommend their services!

Thank you!

When I called Amada Senior Care, I was expecting to have the same conversation as I'd had with several other care agencies; that included what services were and were not available, long wait times, set schedules, etc.
What I got was a wonderful conversation with Joe (Spehar). His caring attitude was an exceptional experience which reassured me I was making the right choice in care for my brother.
His employees are treated with respect which also means they are giving the best care possible. Joe was able to accommodate our needs with his staff both in their personalities and within our budget.
Thanks Joe for taking the time to get to know me and my brother!

Joe did a fantastic job in hiring Leah. Leah is fantastic. She does everything without my reminding her to do so. and more teaching me how to use an I Phone. She is patient at helping my husband who suffered a stroke. Thank you Joe.

Navigating the world of senior care can be daunting for families. They need to feel comfortable having a stranger come into the home of a loved one, entrusting the caregiver with his or her physical, mental, and emotional needs. But our goal is to make that a short-lived matter, as our rigorously screened, trained, compassionate caregivers quickly become like family. Getting to know the client as thoroughly as possible is priority one when a new caregiver arrives on the job, as seniors are definitely not a one-size-fits-all demographic. This enables our caregivers to best address daily needs and provide enrichment activities that mean something to the individual client.

Senior Housing Advising

When seniors or their loved ones begin to feel that they require more support than in-home care and assistance with basic ADLs, it may be time to consider transitioning to an assisted living community.

Senior Housing Guidance and Assistance
Senior Care Housing Options

This is an emotional decision for everyone involved, and our goal at Amada Senior Care in Pittsburgh is to guide families through the placement process with wisdom, empathy and competence.

For some seniors, an assisted living community, typically offering non-complex medical services, may be a good fit. Others may require a bit more support and may be better served in a nursing home or different type of care community.

The team at Amada Senior Care Pittsburgh has years of experience with senior care in North Huntingdon, Jeannette, Irwin, Herminie, Madison, West Newton, Connellsville, Monesson, Belle Vernon, Charleroi, Washington, Canonsburg, Bethel Park, Jefferson Hills, South Park, Mt Lebanon, West Mifflin, Penn Hills, Plum, Monroeville, Oakmont, Trafford, Export, Delmont, Greensburg, Hempfield Township, Perryopolis and the greater Pittsburgh area. As a result, we have deep knowledge of all local care communities and can make sure our clients find the ideal placement to suit their care needs, locations, lifestyles, and budgets.

We also rely on our extensive experience to help our clients make full use of all benefits available to them, including veterans’ benefits and Long-Term Care Insurance benefits. The costs of assisted living may intimidate many families, but we can help them make financial decisions with confidence. To further ease cost concerns, the Amada Pittsburgh team is pleased to offer its placement services free of charge.

When in-home care is no longer ideal for our clients, we are honored to guide them through this next phase. Our specialty is referring seniors to the right community or placement for them, which may include:

  • Assisted living communities
  • Large and small communities
  • Independent living communities
  • Board and care homes
  • Adult family homes
  • Senior care homes
  • Skilled nursing facilities
  • Alzheimer/dementia communities

Veterans Assistance Programs

Many of our veterans, their spouses and their families may not be aware of their potential eligibility for financial assistance from the government. At Amada Senior Care Pittsburgh, we are dedicated to helping individuals eligible for VA Aid and Attendance benefits and other forms of financial support take full advantage of these resources.

How is Aid and Attendance Eligibility Determined?

1. Military Service

  • A minimum of 90 days of active duty, with at least one of those days during wartime.
  • Must not have been dishonorable discharged.

2. Personal Care Needs

  • Applicant must currently require assistance with activities of daily living, such as walking, eating, toileting, or dressing.

3. Income

  • Majority of applicant’s income must currently be spent on care expenses.
  • The percentage of income currently spent on care will determine the benefits they receive.

4. Assets

  • The VA will determine an acceptable threshold for applicants’ assets.
  • Determination of financial assets will depend upon age and financial need.

How VA Aid and Attendance Benefits can Help You:

Through the use of VA benefits, seniors gain more financial flexibility for their care plans and potential placements. This may include:

  • More in-home care.
  • The community of their choice.
  • Benefits paid monthly with no repayment required.
  • Benefits are paid directly to claimants by the United States Treasury and are tax-free.

"Thank you so much for helping out my parents. I don't know what I would have done without your expertise and experience working with their insurance company. What a comfort it was to our friend and her family that she was receiving the care she needed."
