A Great Caregiving Experience In October 2023, my then-88-year-old mother suffered a stroke. After six weeks of rehabilitation, she was able to return to her own home, but she required significant assistance. We contacted Brad and Gwen at Amada Senior Care, whom we had met about a year earlier. It was absolutely the best call we could have made. From December 2023 through July 2026, Amada provided qualified caregivers to assist my mother 12 hours a day, throughout the workweek. Every caregiver was professional, caring, and compassionate, and most had multiple years of experience in the field. More importantly, they took the time to get to know my mother as a person—her likes, dislikes, routines, and preferences—and tailored their care accordingly. We were especially fortunate to have the same core group of caregivers throughout the 2½ years. That consistency was very important to my mother and made things considerably easier for our family. Whenever a substitute was needed, Amada was always able to provide someone dependable and qualified. Brad was also instrumental in helping us navigate the process with my mother’s long-term care insurance provider. He guided us through the necessary meetings and documentation and helped ensure that she met the requirements to activate coverage for her care. His knowledge and assistance during that process were invaluable to our family. My mother has now transitioned from her home to an assisted living community. We will be forever grateful to Brad, Gwen, and the entire Amada family for the exceptional care, kindness, and compassion they showed my Mom over these past 2½ years. When my father, 79y at the time with Alzheimer’s Disease, moved in with us from MD, I knew I needed help. We have 2 young sons and very active lives/interests that keep us moving in 4 different directions. My father is very physically fit for his age and eternally energetic, so he was “game” for all the soccer matches, concerts, neighborhood parties and plays we invited him to. But I knew he would benefit from one on one companion care with increased day to day enrichment, supervision and companionship while I was busy running “life”. Amada, right from the start, presented with professionalism, competence and compassion. After our meeting with Brad, he took time to really find the right match for my Dad. We were looking for someone energetic, conversational, and enthusiastic. My Dad is a retired electrical engineer and former gymnast / pole vaulter, and loves stimulating conversation and adventure. Katie, his first caregiver before his 2 month stay at my brother’s house in CA, and Stacey, his second caregiver upon his return to NC were angels on Earth. They took him out to the library, park, fire house, coffee shops, restaurants, book stores, recreation center, you name it. They skipped their way around town, making friends everywhere they went. He loved them so much, truly lighting up when they came for a visit (12 hours/week over 3 days). Amada also provided 24/7 in-home care when our family traveled without Dad. When it came time to transition to a memory community, Gwen held my hand during the process and helped find the perfect place for him (The Preston House in Charlotte). Brad and Gwen have their whole hearts in the service of senior care. I cannot imagine having sanely navigated the past several years without them by our side. In my opinion Amada Senior Care is fantastic. My husband was in a bad situation in a facility in Charlotte. A friend told me about Gwen at Amada, I contacted her and she was genuinely concerned. She worked with me and several places in regard to moving my husband to a safe, loving environment. He was placed in a care home which is exactly what he needed! When i started working with Gwen I felt as if a thousand pounds were lifted off my shoulders and now that he is moved I feel like a ton has been lifted off of me. Amada is amazing! My husband Bill received care from them in his last few months and we could not have been happier with every aspect. Scheduling adjustments were efficiently handled. Caregiver assignment was extremely consistent so we could get in a comfortable rhythm and they knew each other really well, more like a member of our family than a service provider. Brad met with us at first and then assigned Katie to take care of our family member. She became a member of our family. She knew how to get him to cooperate and how to occupy his time and showed him the respect he deserved. He was well taken care of and was content with her care. When he needed more care than she could provide, we missed her. The business part of his care was done professionally and easily. I would highly recommend Brad and his staff.

The Amada care provided by Brad Smith and his staff has been excellent and the guidance provided by Brad has been invaluable. His care givers have been well trained and very professional. I can give them my unqualified endorsement.
My father used Amada for seven months during a very important time in his care. Initially, we met with Brad while my father was hospitalized, and he was extremely helpful in guiding us through the Long Term Health Care policy. His knowledge of the system was evident, and his support during that process was both needed and appreciated. Once my father returned home, we arranged for Amada to provide caregivers. While there were a few who were truly wonderful, unfortunately the overall experience was inconsistent. Some caregivers did not meet expectations. On one occasion, a caregiver fell asleep while on duty, leaving my father to get out of bed on his own. Another frequently used her phone to the point of asking my father to “hold on” while she finished personal matters. Consistency was also a significant challenge. My father had many different caregivers, requiring him to repeatedly explain his routine and needs, despite detailed written instructions being provided. This was frustrating for him, as continuity is especially important for elderly individuals. After approximately five months and multiple complaints, we were finally assigned two regular caregivers who were truly excellent and made a meaningful difference. Unfortunately, since my father required 24-hour care, the remaining hours were still filled by inconsistent caregivers. Unfortunately, our experience with the supervising nurse, Wendy, was very disappointing. She initially visited my father in the hospital but did not communicate her visit to the family. Her first and only visit to his home occurred after three months of care, despite us being told monthly visits would take place. During that visit, she was dismissive, spoke over me, and was argumentative when I tried to express concerns. She did not engage with my father directly, even though he was fully capable of communicating his needs. The interaction caused unnecessary stress for both of us. While there were a few bright spots, the lack of consistency, professionalism, and communication made an already difficult time much more challenging.
Brad was caring, thoughtful and very helpful. He reviewed our long term care policy and presented the information very clearly and this really helped us to think through some of the complicated issues of long term care. They don’t tell you what to do but give you the information to think through next steps. We appreciated the time Brad. The services Amanda offers cover the continuum of exploration all the way to care itself. It’s helpful to know they are there as a resource to help navigate the process.
Brad came to our location and gave us advice on our Long Term Care policy… he is very knowledgeable and we are sure that what he has done for us will be will be most helpful to anyone. He is most trustworthy and understanding of what seniors need… I would recommend him highly.

As my brother and I were in need of immediate care for our mother with dementia and didn’t know how to start looking for help, we prayed for guidance and we found the answer right away…..AMADA…. AMADA Senior Care is amazing! I was in need of assistance with my mom who was in rehab and then going to a memory care facility. Brad stepped right in to help and didn’t waste any time. As soon as my mom was registered, they had a companion lined up to spend time with her when I could not get to the facility. The companion was perfect! The time she spent with my mom was so helpful and gave me peace of mind that my mom was not feeling alone when I couldn’t be there. The scheduling team was very helpful, friendly and communicated with me about everything. If days needed to be switched, staff wasn’t available or anything else that came up they were on top of it. Overall my experience with Brad and his team was nothing short of excellent! I would highly recommend them!

The Amada Team’s efforts during this difficult journey with my father-in-law were outstanding. I’ve met several remarkable women. Larry, my father-in-law, had some extreamly difficult episodes that were handled and accepted with such grace and compassion. When nothing much could be done for Larry near the end, those last three days and nights I walked in to find caregivers doing the most compassionate things: sitting beside Larry holding his hand and speaking gently to him, singing and humming to soothe him, tending to his comfort with profound benevolence. I partnered with Amada for over three years for the care of my mother. I found Brad and Gwen (owners) to be very passionate and genuinely caring about the care of their clients. When I asked that they find a permanent care giver for Mom because of dementia (she didn’t like change and new people) they found Two wonderful care givers that treated my mom with dignity and respect. Even when she became difficult over the three years they were steadfast in how they cared for her. I never was concerned or worried about leaving my mom in the care of any of the care givers we had. Each of the permanent care givers became a part of our family. They were knowledgeable, and experienced. The temporary care givers that filled in needed a bit more communication about mom’s needs, but were open and respectful of those needs. Most recently my mother was put into hospice care at home. Our care giver, Charlene was my angel. She was my rock for those few weeks. Her experience far superseded anything I could have asked for. I could never have asked for better care of my mom.
I called multiple agencies for help with my dad’s care and Amada was the only one to respond as promptly and drive to meet me to discuss his care needs so we went with them. They provided us daytime and weekend caregivers who were outstanding–lasting 8+ months and bonding with my dad. These two women became like family to my dad. At times we had difficulty matching as well with folks on evening shifts but Amada was responsive and quickly adjusted as needed. I highly recommend them.

This is the first time having to experience the process that is the slow death of a dearly loved one. My grandmother said she never wanted to go to one of “those places” — and that she just wanted to stay in her house, in her room… where she felt safe, and comfortable. With her things, and her family visiting when they could. I promised her I would do everything I could to make that happen. She wasn’t able to take care of herself after her Congestive Heart Failure diagnosis. It was just too much to stand up for more than a little bit. My uncle and myself split the effort of assisting her for months. Watching a loved one deteriorate slowly really takes its toll. I began looking to see what our options were for in home assistance. I found Amada and reached out. Brad contacted me and made me feel exceptionally comfortable with the decision to have aides come and take care of her for a few hours every other day. Brad came and met with us multiple times during the last year to help us work out schedules. He assisted us with getting her insurance going… [he is] very knowledgeable about that process, and handling the people. Amada was amazingly flexible with schedules when we started needing more help. Near the end of her life, we had almost 24/7 care. During a brief stay at in hospice respite care, the Amada aides that she was familiar with travelled across town to be with her during their shifts. Like a whole 45 minutes away from her house. We are so thankful for Amada. The caretakers were exceptional. We bonded with many of them… I am so glad they got to meet my awesome grandma, and she loved talking to them about their families and favorite sports teams. If you are over on this side of town and looking for someone to take care of your loved one, you can relax now. This is it. Call them.

Brad, Gwen, Amy, and the entire Amada staff are great. They were an answer to our prayers in getting mom the in-home care she needed. Gwen set up interviews at local assisted living communities, toured with us, and answered all of our questions. The in-home caregivers were a great help in providing companionship, taking mom to buy groceries and pick up her medicines, running errands, light housekeeping, warming meals and encouraging her to eat and stay hydrated, and helping the family with whatever was needed. Amy in scheduling is very accommodating and happily made adjustments to mom’s schedule when needed. My brother, sister, and I all appreciate Amada and we highly recommend them for your loved one.

I’d give Amada Charlotte six stars if it were possible. My brother was suffering mightily with late stage cancer and the caregivers were always professional, empathetic and ethical.
