Amada Senior Care Northwest Twin Cities

Greg Getchell, owner of Amada Senior Care Northwest Twin Cities, has learned through his healthcare career as well as his personal experiences that it can be incredibly difficult to find quality in-home and senior care. He is determined to change this for his neighbors in the Northwest Twin Cities, Minnetonka, Maple Grove, Andover, White Bear Lake, Shoreview, Blaine, Plymouth, Hennepin County, Edina, and surrounding communities.

As Greg puts it, “I have built a career in healthcare over the last 19 years. More recently, my involvement in the treatment of stroke patients has opened my eyes to the need for quality in-home care. Having witnessed the aging of my parents and my wife’s parents and grandparents has also made me keenly aware that, inevitably, someday we or someone we love will be in need of home care. Through my work at Amada Senior Care Northwest Twin Cities, my mission is to provide you and your loved ones with the best possible senior care.”

To Greg and the rest of our Amada Northwest Twin Cities team, providing quality in-home care requires much more than simply helping a senior or client with basic activities of daily living like cooking and bathing. We believe it is essential that we enrich our clients’ lives on a daily basis. To do this, we get to know each client personally so that we can identify the most meaningful ways to brighten their days. This could mean reading aloud from Grandpa’s favorite book, helping Mom get her hair “just right,” or setting up a time to meet the grandkids at the neighborhood park. We seek opportunities like this because we feel that bringing our clients joy is just as important as helping them stay safe.

In addition to providing superior home-care, we at Amada Northwest Twin Cities also offer senior housing advisory and placement services, financial counseling to help our clients find the best way to pay for care, and even direct advocacy with long-term care insurance carriers. We realize that every family’s journey through senior care is different, and we walk beside them every step of the way—because you’ll never feel alone when you’re part of the Amada Northwest Twin Cities family.

Caring Staff And Workers

Amada has provided caregivers for my mother, who has Alzheimers, for over 18 months now. We started off with just a few hours a day of assistance with dressing and bathing. As my father became more comfortable with an additional person in their apartment, he readily agreed to longer hours of assistance both for my mom and for him. He didn't need the personal care that my mother did, but he realized how nice it was to have assistance with meal preparation and laundry. We eventually ended up having Amada provide 24/7 care for my mom as she has declined.Greg, the owner; Kay, the office manager; Sara, supervisor; and every one of the Amada hands-on aides have been life-savers for our family. Greg was supportive, informative, honest, and helpful from Day 1. Kay does a fantastic job of scheduling, ensuring that care needs are met, and communicating with family and aides. She makes it a point to find caregivers who are a good fit with both the person needing care and other household members. In fact, our Amada caregivers have come to feel like family members. The Amada aides have even stayed overnight in the hospital with my mom, keeping her comfortable and unafraid. My father passed away rather suddenly a few months ago, and Amada provided us with wonderful care and support, which we so desperately needed at that time. We have now moved my mother into a Memory Care unit so that she can have some interaction with other dementia patients, but we are continuing to have the Amada aides provide the one-on-one assistance that she needs, and that would not be available otherwise.I'm so thankful that we found this agency and their caring staff and workers as we make this difficult journey.

Relief

Thanks for a great job of helping care for my father the last few days of his life, all he wanted was to be home in his own house. The few days of support you provided enabled us to make him happy and be with him.

Senior Housing Advising

When seniors or their loved ones begin to feel that they require more support than in-home care and assistance with basic ADLs, it may be time to consider transitioning to an assisted living community.

Senior Housing Guidance and Assistance
Senior Care Housing Options

This is an emotional decision for everyone involved, and our goal at Amada Senior Care in Northwest Twin Cities is to guide families through the placement process with wisdom, empathy and competence.

For some seniors, an assisted living community, typically offering non-complex medical services, may be a good fit. Others may require a bit more support and may be better served in a nursing home or different type of care community.

The team at Amada Senior Care Northwest Twin Cities has years of experience with senior care in Northwest Twin Cities, Minnetonka, Maple Grove, Andover, White Bear Lake, Shoreview, Blaine, Plymouth, Hennepin County, Edina, and surrounding communities. As a result, we have deep knowledge of all local care communities and can make sure our clients find the ideal placement to suit their care needs, locations, lifestyles, and budgets.

We also rely on our extensive experience to help our clients make full use of all benefits available to them, including veterans’ benefits and Long-Term Care Insurance benefits. The costs of assisted living may intimidate many families, but we can help them make financial decisions with confidence. To further ease cost concerns, the Amada Northwest Twin Cities team is pleased to offer its placement services free of charge.

When in-home care is no longer ideal for our clients, we are honored to guide them through this next phase. Our specialty is referring seniors to the right community or placement for them, which may include:

  • Assisted living communities
  • Large and small communities
  • Independent living communities
  • Board and care homes
  • Adult family homes
  • Senior care homes
  • Skilled nursing facilities
  • Alzheimer/dementia communities

Veterans Assistance Programs

Many of our veterans, their spouses and their families may not be aware of their potential eligibility for financial assistance from the government. At Amada Senior Care Northwest Twin Cities, we are dedicated to helping individuals eligible for VA Aid and Attendance benefits and other forms of financial support take full advantage of these resources.

How is Aid and Attendance Eligibility Determined?

1. Military Service

  • A minimum of 90 days of active duty, with at least one of those days during wartime.
  • Must not have been dishonorable discharged.

2. Personal Care Needs

  • Applicant must currently require assistance with activities of daily living, such as walking, eating, toileting, or dressing.

3. Income

  • Majority of applicant’s income must currently be spent on care expenses.
  • The percentage of income currently spent on care will determine the benefits they receive.

4. Assets

  • The VA will determine an acceptable threshold for applicants’ assets.
  • Determination of financial assets will depend upon age and financial need.

How VA Aid and Attendance Benefits can Help You:

Through the use of VA benefits, seniors gain more financial flexibility for their care plans and potential placements. This may include:

  • More in-home care.
  • The community of their choice.
  • Benefits paid monthly with no repayment required.
  • Benefits are paid directly to claimants by the United States Treasury and are tax-free.
