1. Military Service Requirements
- A minimum of 90 days of active duty; at least one of active-duty day must have been during wartime.
- Must not have a dishonorable discharged.
2. Current and Ongoing Personal Care Needs
- Applicant must currently require assistance with ADLs like walking, toileting, eating, or dressing currently.
3. Income Limits
- The majority of veteran applicant’s income must currently be spent on personal care expenses.
- The percentage of an applicant’s income that is currently spent on care will determine benefits.
4. A Veteran’s Assets
- The VA determines the acceptable threshold for applicants’ assets.
- This threshold depends upon financial need and age.
