Laura and Ben Hartson, owners of Amada Senior Care Cedar Rapids, understand their role represents a deep commitment to the cherished senior population in the Greater Cedar Rapids area encompassing Iowa County, Johnson County and Linn County. Both being Iowa natives and avowed University of Iowa Hawkeye fans, Laura and Ben have spent their lives in various aspects of healthcare—Laura first in pharmaceutical sales and then medical device.
Says Laura, “I was working with lymphedema pumps: providers, clinicians, and patients,” she says. “It’s very much patient-oriented, something that seamlessly transfers to my Amada Senior Care clients and their families. Everyone deserves to feel valued, supported, comfortable, and confident in the people providing their care. That’s our mission.”
The son of a NICU nurse who grew up in the world of healthcare, Ben brings 20 years of “absolutely passionate” and compassionate caregiving experience to senior home care. A former skilled nursing facility CNA, he has also held various key roles at Iowa City group homes. Additional work with special needs individuals and those afflicted with Parkinson’s disease, ALS, and other conditions expertly qualifies him as an in-home care coordinator to train the Amada Cedar Rapids care team and guide vulnerable seniors and their families through the caregiving process.
Laura believes elders make up the foundation for every community, so delivering exceptional in-home care that makes seniors’ lives easier, safer and more joyful has the best positive influence on seniors and their families. Laura and the entire Amada Cedar Rapids care team understand it not only is an honor but also a reflection of their clients’ trust to be invited into their homes and lives. “Trust Amada Senior Care when someone you love needs us,” Laura says. “We’re here for the whole family with the best-quality compassionate care and genuine companionship.”

My mother is 96-1/2 years old and very independent. She feels she can sray alone and does not need assistance so when I told her someone from Amada was coming to be with her while I took my husband for tests, she did not feel that was necessary.
Emily came to be with her, and I could not believe how happy she was when i came home. Emily was so pleasant, and Mom really enjoyed her compsny. They watched "Little House on the Prairie" and also had lunch together. Mom was very talkative when we got home and called Emily "my friend."
The appointment went quickly, and we did a little shopping and enjoyed lunch. We truly enjoyed our "date" and was thrilled Mom had such a wonderful dat. Thank you, Emily!! Thank you Amada!!
We were so pleased when Kayla watched my mother when iI went for a jospital test. She was very friendly, attentive, and provided exceptional care. Mom felt very relaxed and comfortable having Kayla here and talking with her. I am so impressed with Laura Hartson and Anada Seniior Care. I will definitely look forward to having Kayla come again. Such a positive experience!!
I have been so very pleased with the excellent services Amada Senior Care is providing for my husband with his decline in mental capacity. Laura and Ben have gone beyond any of my expectations to help us make the transition to their care. Their help in managing our long-term care insurance has been outstanding and has relieved me of a burden that was difficult for me to manage. Our caretaker, Julie, provides THE BEST care for my husband. Her warmth, kindness, intelligence, and engaging personality have made a strong and enduring relationship that is most helpful for my husband. I am very grateful and feel quite secure in leaving my husband in such competent hands. For a rating, I would give the Amada Senior Care five + stars!
I was blown away by the level of care and attention that Amada Senior Care provided to my father. The caregivers were kind, respectful, and attentive to his needs, and they always went above and beyond to make sure he was comfortable and happy. I would recommend Amada to anyone in need of exceptional senior care.
My family and I are grateful for the support that Amada Senior Care provided during a difficult time. The caregivers were compassionate and attentive, and they provided excellent care for my mother. The staff at Amada Senior Care were also incredibly helpful in navigating the complex world of insurance and financing options. They went above and beyond to make sure that my mother received the care she needed. I highly recommend this company to anyone in need of senior care services.
Amada Senior Care provided exceptional care and support to my grandfather during his final months. The caregivers were kind, patient, and always willing to lend a listening ear. They worked with us to create a customized care plan that addressed all of his needs, and they were always available
This is an emotional decision for everyone involved, and our goal at Amada Senior Care in Cedar Rapids is to guide families through the placement process with wisdom, empathy, and competence.
For some seniors, an assisted living community, typically offering non-complex medical services, may be a good fit. Others may require a bit more support and may be better served in a nursing home or different type of care community.
