Top 3 Senior Veterans Benefits Available in Georgia

BENEFIT #1: Aid & Attendance

This benefit helps qualified veterans or their surviving spouses by increasing their monthly VA pension to help cover in-home care costs.

Eligible veterans must:

  • Have 90+ days of active duty, including at least one day during wartime (two years for Persian Gulf service).
  • Currently requires assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, walking, meal prep, and eating.
  • Have a significant portion of income allocated towards care expenses.

BENEFIT #2: Homemaker/Home Health Aide (HHA)

The HHA program supports veterans who want to remain independent in their own homes as long as possible, providing them with an expertly trained home health aide or homemaker. These in-home professionals assist with daily tasks and common activities while offering companionship and improving their overall quality of life. This veteran’s service is contracted through non-VA providers, typically home care agencies like Amada Senior Care.

Qualification criteria include:

  • Enrollment in a VA medical benefits package.
  • Confirmed eligibility for community-based care services.
  • A doctor’s prescription for home care services.

BENEFIT #3: Respite Care

Respite Care helps family caregivers by lightening their schedules and providing much-needed breaks. This temporary relief gives these devoted family members and friends time to tend to personal errands, other family matters, or their mental health. For the veteran, this service can manifest in a few different ways. They may receive visits by a substitute home health aide, have day trips to an assisted living facility or VA nursing home, or be taken to a VA medical center for short-stay, inpatient care. Priority is typically given to caregivers assisting elderly veterans (75 and older), disabled veterans, or those with greater care needs.

To qualify, veterans must:

  • Be enrolled in a VA health care benefits package.
  • Currently need assistance with daily living activities or have a chronic illness that requires professional care.

For more information on veterans’ benefits, check the Department of Veterans Affairs’ website at www.va.gov. When discussing Benefits #2 and #3 with your VA Primary Care Physician, please ensure to provide Amada Senior Care’s NPI number, 1467175638, to facilitate this request.

Helping Veterans in Southwest Atlanta and Across Georgia

All too often, the process of accessing veterans’ benefits can be convoluted and actually impede the underlying goal. What’s worse, many veterans and their family members are entirely unaware of the financial assistance available to them in the first place. At Amada Senior Care in Southwest Atlanta, we can help our beloved veterans determine their eligibility for VA Aid and Attendance benefits, as well as other forms of financial support.

“Amada totally met and exceeded my expectations! I appreciated every aspect of the service. It was a HUGE relief having Amada around to help with the care of my husband.”
