How is Your Aid and Attendance Eligibility Determined?
1. Military Service
- A minimum of 90 days of active duty, with at least one day during wartime.
- Must not have been a dishonorable discharge.
2. Personal Care Needs
- The applicant must require assistance with activities such as dressing, eating, toileting, walking, and other daily living tasks.
3. Income
- A significant portion of the applicant’s income must be allocated toward care-related expenses.
- The benefits received will depend on how much of an applicant’s income is spent on care.
4. Assets
- The VA will determine an acceptable threshold for applicants’ assets.
- Financial assets are determined by age and financial need.
