My name is Victor Esteban Chávez, and my journey into senior care began long before I ever considered it a profession — it began at home.

Growing up in Mexico, I lived with my great-grandmother and her sister, both refugees from Germany after World War II. My great-grandmother lived to be 107 years old. I remember caregivers coming into our home to help them — preparing meals, managing medications, offering companionship, and showing a level of compassion that stuck with me for life. Even as a child, I understood how vital and meaningful this kind of care was.

Interestingly, my wife Andrea had a remarkably similar experience. She too grew up surrounded by her grandparents during their final years. They lived with her family, and caregivers were present in their home as well. Like me, she saw firsthand how much love, patience, and dignity goes into caring for an aging loved one. These shared childhood experiences built in both of us a deep empathy — and a passion to one day be that source of care for others.

Non-medical caregiving for U.S. veterans includes a range of supportive services that enhance their daily lives and overall well-being. This can involve assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as meal preparation, housekeeping, transportation to appointments, and companionship to combat loneliness. Caregivers can also provide emotional support, help with managing schedules, and offer respite care for family members. Additionally, they may assist with errands, mobility support, and engaging veterans in social and recreational activities to promote a sense of community and purpose. These services ensure that veterans maintain their independence while receiving the care and attention they deserve.row

Our Story: A Lifetime of Care, A Future of Service

Professionally, I started out in an entirely different field — as a chef. I owned and operated my own restaurant, dedicated to serving others through hospitality. After closing the restaurant, I was preparing to take my culinary skills abroad to New Zealand. At the same time, my father — a well-known physician in Mexico — had asked my brother to help manage his medical clinic. Tragically, my brother passed away in a car accident just days later, and I stepped in to help run the clinic.

That moment changed the course of my life.

I moved from serving guests to serving patients. Over the years, I became deeply engaged in healthcare operations, and I discovered a calling not only to support my family, but to create something meaningful that could serve many others. Now, as my parents themselves begin to age, I feel an even stronger commitment to build something that allows me to care for them — and for the many families in our community facing the same needs.

Together, Andrea and I founded Amada Senior Care South Austin not just as a business, but as a mission. We believe every senior deserves more than just assistance — they deserve dignity, comfort, connection, and joy. Through our personal experiences and professional dedication, we are here to support families with compassion and excellence.

This is more than a job. It’s our story. It’s our purpose.
