Amada Senior Care Presents Continuing Education Program for Sanford USD Medical Center Case Managers

Amada Senior Care Sioux Falls recently had the privilege of providing a continuing education presentation for nurse case managers at Sanford USD Medical Center.

The presentation, titled “Hospice, Palliative and Home Care, Oh My!”, explored the similarities and differences between these important services and how they can work together to support patients and families throughout their healthcare journey.

Families are often faced with difficult decisions when a loved one experiences a serious illness, hospitalization, or decline in health.

Understanding the available care options can make those decisions less overwhelming and help ensure individuals receive the right support at the right time.

During the session, we discussed:

  • The role of non-medical home care in helping individuals remain safe and independent at home
  • How palliative care can improve quality of life for those living with serious illness
  • The purpose of hospice care and when it may be appropriate
  • Ways these services can complement one another to better support patients and family caregivers

We are grateful to the Sanford USD Medical Center team for the opportunity to connect with their case managers and contribute to the ongoing education of professionals who play such an important role in patient care and discharge planning.

Strong collaboration among healthcare providers, case managers, home care agencies, hospice organizations, and community resources helps families navigate complex situations with greater confidence and support.

At Amada Senior Care Sioux Falls, we are committed to serving as a resource for healthcare professionals, seniors, and family caregivers throughout our community. Whether families are exploring home care, long-term care insurance benefits, senior living options, or simply trying to understand what resources may be available, our goal is to help them make informed decisions with confidence.

Thank you again to Sanford USD Medical Center for the opportunity to share and learn together.

Sioux Falls Senior Resource Fair Helps Families Navigate Aging with Confidence

One of the most common questions families ask is:

“What do we do next?”

Whether it’s a parent who is beginning to need more support, a spouse facing a new diagnosis, or a family trying to understand available resources, navigating the aging journey can feel overwhelming.

To help answer those questions, Amada Senior Care Sioux Falls recently hosted the Sioux Falls Senior Resource Fair at Legends on Lake Lorraine. The event brought together trusted organizations from across the community to help older adults and their families better understand their options and connect with valuable local resources.

Helping Families Find Answers Before a Crisis

Many families don’t begin searching for senior care resources until a crisis occurs. A hospitalization, fall, memory concern, Parkinson’s diagnosis, or caregiving challenge can leave families scrambling to make important decisions with little time to prepare.

The goal of the Senior Resource Fair was simple: create a welcoming, low-pressure environment where people could ask questions, learn about available services, and explore options before urgent decisions become necessary.

Attendees had the opportunity to connect with organizations specializing in:

  • Home care services
  • Home health care
  • Hospice care
  • Alzheimer’s support and education
  • Parkinson’s resources
  • Rehabilitation and recovery
  • Senior living options
  • Elder law and planning
  • Health screenings and wellness resources

Community Partners Working Together

One of the highlights of the event was the collaboration between organizations that serve older adults throughout Sioux Falls and the surrounding communities.

Participating organizations included:

  • Amada Senior Care Sioux Falls
  • Legends on Lake Lorraine
  • AseraCare Hospice
  • Aveanna Home Health
  • Audiology Associates
  • Alzheimer’s Association – South Dakota
  • Circle Clinical Research
  • Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital
  • Legacy Law Firm
  • South Dakota Parkinson Foundation
  • St. Croix Hospice

Each organization brought unique expertise and resources, giving attendees the opportunity to learn from multiple professionals in one convenient location.

More Than Information

The event was designed to be educational, but also enjoyable.

Attendees enjoyed:

  • Health screenings
  • Mini educational sessions
  • Prize giveaways
  • Refreshments
  • Community networking
  • A special performance by Edie Julik, who brings movement, music, and joy to seniors throughout the region through her engaging hula presentations

Circle Clinical Research also offered information about Lipoprotein(a), often called Lp(a), an important heart health marker that many adults have never had screened.

The Importance of Planning Ahead

One of the strongest themes throughout the event was the value of planning ahead.

Many older adults and families are surprised to learn how many resources are available to help maintain independence, improve quality of life, and support caregivers. Understanding those options early often leads to better decisions and less stress when challenges arise.

Whether a family is exploring home care, considering senior living, managing a chronic condition, or simply gathering information for the future, having access to trusted local resources can make a significant difference.

Supporting Sioux Falls Families

At Amada Senior Care Sioux Falls, we believe families deserve clear information, compassionate guidance, and practical support as care needs change.

Events like the Sioux Falls Senior Resource Fair are one way we can bring our community together to share knowledge, answer questions, and help families feel more confident about the road ahead.

If you’re caring for an aging parent, spouse, or loved one and aren’t sure what to do next, we’re always happy to be a resource.

Because no family should have to navigate aging alone.

A Valentine’s Day Surprise: Care That Goes Beyond the Basics

Spreading Joy Through Senior Care and Caregiver Culture in Sioux Falls

When Centerville Care and Rehab shared that residents would love Valentine’s Day cards, the community responded in a big way. Hundreds of cards poured in.

We loved seeing that kind of support. But we also wanted to show up in our own way.

Building Compassion into Caregiver Orientation

During our recent caregiver orientation at Amada Senior Care Sioux Falls, our newest team members created a giant handmade Valentine’s card together. Markers and stickers out. Creativity flowing. A simple way to start their journey with us. Orientation isn’t just about policies and procedures. It’s about setting the tone for the kind of care we want to provide – compassionate, respectful, and attentive.

The card became a reflection of that culture.

An Added Surprise

Rather than quietly dropping it off, the card was delivered as a surprise singing telegram.

No professional vocals.

No video evidence.  (We tried, but it didn’t record. :))

But plenty of smiles.

It was a small moment. but small moments matter.

Why Culture Matters in In-Home Care

Families searching for in-home care in Sioux Falls are often navigating uncertainty. They want safety, reliability, and support. But they also want something less tangible: Warmth. Presence. Compassion.

We believe care at home should follow a clear, supportive path — one that begins with listening and continues with thoughtful planning and ongoing advocacy. But it only works when the people delivering that care understand the deeper purpose behind it.

That understanding starts on day one. We’re grateful for local senior communities like Centerville Care and Rehab that create opportunities for connection and celebration. And we’re proud of caregivers who choose to bring heart into their work.

Because great care isn’t just about what we do. It’s about how we show up.

Celebration Time! Amada Senior Care in Sioux Falls, SD is Officially Open
to Serve Our Senior Population

October marked the official grand opening of Amada Senior Care in Sioux Falls, SD. The owners of Amada Sioux Falls are Kevin and Shanygne Gullickson, who took great delight in the joyful ribbon cutting ceremony and the incredible community turnout!

Kevin and Shanygne were honored to have Dr. Ronald Place, CEO of Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, present their Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce membership and by Tammy Beintema of the American Heart Association giving a warm welcome and address.

Kevin, who leads Amada Sioux Falls as Managing Partner of Outreach & Strategic Partnerships, shared the professional care team’s heart for serving seniors and their families here in Sioux Falls, SD.

After the ribbon cutting, guests enjoyed tours of our new office, refreshments, and wonderful conversation. It was a full house, with Kevin and Shanygne thrilled to welcome some of their amazing caregivers, referral partners from the financial and insurance community, fellow in-home care providers, leaders and members of local churches, and staff from Active Generations who have supported Amada Sioux Falls since day one.

A special highlight was having Kevin and Shanygne’s in-house Amada business coach, Nylah, join in person to celebrate the milestone. And the highlight (and big hit) of the day were the Amada Senior Care Sioux Falls logo cookies from Active Generations. Everyone loved them!

Says Kevin, “We’re deeply grateful to the Greater Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce for helping us mark this special moment and to every guest who came to support us. Your presence reminds us why we do what we do — helping seniors live safely at home, advocating for long-term care insurance, and guiding families through the journey of aging.”

“Here’s to building strong partnerships and serving our cherished elders on the senior care journey with excellence!”

Amada Sioux Falls Helps Sunnycrest Retirement Village in Outreach to Veterans at Pokeyrunon’s Walk

At Amada Senior Care in Sioux Falls, we’re passionate about helping seniors and their families understand all the options available for aging in place — especially the veterans and surviving spouses who have served our country.

This is why we were honored to join residents at Sunnycrest Retirement Village in Sioux Falls for its annual Pokeyrun event — a fun day filled with great conversations and meaningful connections.

Says Amada Sioux Falls Owner Kevin Gullickson, “While the event was meant to bring smiles, it also revealed something important. During our visit, we asked how many residents are veterans or surviving spouses. Several said they were — but when we asked how many knew about VA benefits for in-home care or respite care, very few had even heard of them.”

“Even some surviving spouses of veterans didn’t realize they might qualify for the VA Aid & Attendance Benefit, which can help pay for non-medical home care and assistance with daily activities like bathing, dressing, meals, and companionship,” Kevin notes.

Participation in Pokeyrun inspired Kevin and the entire professional care team at Amada Sioux Falls to take on the mission of reaching out to 100 senior veterans and surviving spouses before Veterans Day week, ensuring they understand what VA benefits for home care are available and how to apply.

“We’re grateful to the Sunnycrest Retirement Village team for their partnership and shared dedication to supporting local Sioux Falls seniors,” says Kevin. “Together, we’re making sure that every veteran in the community has access to the care and benefits they’ve earned.”
