Advocacy in action at the Utah Capitol 👏

With growing Medicaid funding pressures and budget constraints under review by the Legislature’s Budget and Appropriations Committee, advocates, providers, and families gathered at the Capitol on Monday, February 9, to raise concerns about potential cuts to home- and community-based services. Advocates stressed that eliminating or underfunding these programs would harm families, limit access to essential supports, and push vulnerable individuals back into institutional care.

A major focus of the discussion was the New Choices Waiver — a Utah Medicaid waiver that helps individuals who qualify for nursing-facility level care receive supportive services in community-based settings instead of institutions. When eligibility requirements are met and individuals choose to live in a community home setting, the waiver provides critical services such as attendant care, homemaker services, respite care, and personal budget assistance — preserving dignity, independence, and choice.

A key issue raised was SAR0058, a legislative proposal to increase reimbursement rates for assisted living providers under the New Choices Waiver. Utah Medicaid reimbursement rates for this waiver have remained largely unchanged for nearly 20 years. Advocates emphasized that updated rates are essential to sustain quality care, retain providers, and ensure seniors and individuals with disabilities continue to have access to community-based options.

At Amada Senior Care Lehi, UT we’re grateful for the leaders who showed up to advocate for Utah seniors and families, including Utah Assisted Living Association Board Member Scott MonsonBenjamin Booth of Oasis Senior Care, and trusted referral partner Jackie Carter of Utah Case Management.

Advocates also closely monitored broader Medicaid legislation this session, including HB0015, which proposes changes to Medicaid eligibility, funding structures, and administrative policies. While HB0015 does not directly modify the New Choices Waiver, broader Medicaid policy decisions can significantly impact how waivers are funded and managed — underscoring why advocates showed up to protect vulnerable populations.

Why this matters to Amada Senior Care in Lehi, UT:

At Amada Senior Care Lehi, we see firsthand how the New Choices Waiver helps seniors remain supported, safe, and cared for in the setting they prefer. Sustainable funding and fair reimbursement are critical to maintaining access to care, supporting caregivers, and ensuring families have real choices when navigating complex aging and health needs.

We’re proud to stand alongside partners who don’t just serve seniors every day — but also show up to advocate for them when it matters most.

Powerful afternoon at Maple Landing Assisted Living

Today, local healthcare and senior-care professionals gathered for a packed house at Maple Landing’s newest community in Mapleton for an afternoon of connection, collaboration, and a first look at what’s coming next for senior living in Utah County.

Amada Senior Care Lehi was proud to be there supporting this incredible event, connecting with referral partners, care teams, and community leaders who share the same mission: making sure seniors and families receive the compassionate, high-quality care they deserve.

From the moment the doors opened, the energy in the room said it all — providers, referral partners, and community leaders came ready to build real relationships, share ideas, and explore how we can better serve seniors together.

A major highlight was hearing from Tavia Scott, Executive Director, who shared Maple Landing’s vision for creating a warm, home-like environment where residents feel respected, safe, and truly cared for. The excitement around their January opening is well deserved — the space is beautiful and the leadership team is outstanding.
