Non-medical caregiving for U.S. veterans includes a range of supportive services that enhance their daily lives and overall well-being. This can involve assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as meal preparation, housekeeping, transportation to appointments, and companionship to combat loneliness. Caregivers can also provide emotional support, help with managing schedules, and offer respite care for family members. Additionally, they may assist with errands, mobility support, and engaging veterans in social and recreational activities to promote a sense of community and purpose. These services ensure that veterans maintain their independence while receiving the care and attention they deserve.

When I called Amada Senior Care, I was expecting to have the same conversation as I’d had with several other care agencies; that included what services were and were not available, long wait times, set schedules, etc. What I got was a wonderful conversation with Joe (Spehar). His caring attitude was an exceptional experience which reassured me I was making the right choice in care for my brother. His employees are treated with respect which also means they are giving the best care possible. Joe was able to accommodate our needs with his staff both in their personalities and within our budget. Thanks Joe for taking the time to get to know me and my brother!

Joe, on behalf of my brothers, sister and Karen, I wanted to say Thank you for helping us with care for my Father. At a time when we really had no direction for care, you and your Amada team stepped in and gave us the help we needed. Kim was really a blessing to us and her unending enthusiasm was what it took to gain my dads trust and get him situated for the evening help we needed. She really took a sincere interest in the care as well as our family. Kim went out of her way to do more than help dad, she befriended karen and sat with her to get to know our family, she cleaned, did the laundry and anything else we needed. Thank you again for your team and especially Kim for her support for Dad and her talented care she is gifted with. Thank you

My mom needed to go on hospice and is bed bound so she couldn’t be left alone while we are at work all day. We hired Amada to help take care of her a few days a week so that we didn’t have to put her in a facility. The owner has always been very friendly and accommodating and we found him to be very sincere. He matched us with a caregiver very quickly (less than a week). He gave us his cell phone number, responds outside of regular business hours, we are very pleased with the level of service. It has always seemed more than just a business and he has gone out of his way to make a difficult situation easier for my family. My mom (and everyone else) loves the caregiver that comes. She feels very comfortable with her and enjoys spending time with her. She is trust worthy, gentle, and caring and I’d say goes above and beyond what we expected. If she can’t come a particular day, there is a backup caregiver that they send so we don’t have to worry about no one showing up. Overall they have certainly helped alleviate some of the worries we have about caring for our mother at home and we can entrust them to take good care of my mom when we can’t be there ourselves.

Becoming an Amada caregiver is a deeply rewarding experience, filled with moments of genuine connection and compassion. It offers the opportunity to make a real difference in someone’s life, whether by providing companionship, assisting with daily tasks, or simply offering a comforting presence. The role fosters patience, empathy, and a profound appreciation for the strength and resilience of others. Seeing the impact of your kindness and care firsthand brings a unique sense of fulfillment, turning everyday moments into meaningful acts of service and love.

Joe says, “Both of my parents died of cancer. I remember the desperation and the helplessness we felt when we were trying to find home care for them. And I remember the amount of care and love their caregivers provided for them. We simply couldn’t give these caregivers enough hugs, couldn’t give them enough ‘thank-yous.’ And I knew at that time that I wanted to have the opportunity to give back, to do something just like that. Now, that’s what we provide at Amada Greater Pittsburgh. Let our family take care of your family.”

On top of their experiences as a member of a close family coping with the illness of two parents, Shelly Spehar has also worked in the healthcare industry for more than 25 years. Shelly says, “I see what caregivers do to enrich the lives of patients and their families, day after day. At Amada, we’d like to help you find caregivers of this quality. We provide a nurturing, caring environment that allows seniors to remain independent in the comfort of their own home.”

At Amada Senior Care Pittsburgh, we provide non-medical, in-home care, assisted living placement services, advisory services to help clients cover the cost of care, and whatever else your family needs to ease your worries and ensure your loved one is safe, comfortable and thriving.

Because, as you can see, caring for families is what we do best.
