james bernoski amada senior careJames Bernoski and Laural Strong, owners of Amada Senior Care Lexington, know firsthand what a difference quality in-home care and private-duty Nursing Care. Both experienced registered nurses in critical care settings, including the emergency room, James and Laural have personally witnessed many of the gaps in the senior care continuum. One of the most concerning care gaps occurs when a senior patient leaves a facility and returns home. “Family members don’t know who to contact,” says James, “Mom and dad may still need help but there aren’t many resources available to help them.”

This scenario was far too common in their nursing experience; James and Laural knew they needed to do something to help close the gap. That something turned out to be the purchase of an Amada Senior Care franchise.“Laural and I wanted to make a difference in the care gap,” says James, “At Amada Senior Care of Lexington, we are not only able to provide the highest quality of care to seniors, but we are also able to give their families the peace of mind they deserve.”

As nurses, and additionally for Laural as an Air Force veteran with 12 years of service, the franchise business partners understand the struggles faced by many modern-family caregivers, especially those referred to as the sandwich generation.“Caregiving can be stressful, time-consuming and emotionally exhausting. It can be difficult for families to juggle work, children and other obligations and still find time to properly care for an aging parent or loved one,” says Laural, “Home care provides a means for family caregivers to reduce the burden so they can focus more on being a son, daughter, or friend.”

For Amada Lexington, their home care business is more than just another home care company – it’s a chance to give back to their senior community, including military veterans and their families. “It’s important to give back to the seniors that took care of us when we were growing up,” says Laural. The Amada Lexington team is dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of their clients and they are prepared to go the extra mile for them.

James ends, “At the end of the day, Amada Lexington is on a mission to provide high-quality, individualized and compassionate care to the Lexington community through respect, integrity and excellence with every client they serve.”

Brandi,, with Amada senior care has been very helpful in our first year of using this wonderful program. Brandi has always answered my questions promptly and professionally. The care givers I have met are sweet and helpful.
I give 5 stars to each person I have encountered in this program.
Thank you Brandi and team.
I know schedules are hard to plan and even harder to implement.

Sawadi Sifa is an excellent caregiver.

Sawadi has been a 5-day per week caregiver for my husband who has Parkinson's disease. He is at the stage where he falls often. Sawadi takes her job very seriously. She watches my husband like a hawk, looking for movements that might result in a fall. If she sees the slightest indication of a possible fall, she is at his side instantly. I can't say enough good things about her. I have learned so much from her and I consider her a friend. Best of all, my husband likes her too and has great respect for her.

Take a moment to tell you about the wonderful job Elaine is doing

I just wanted to take a moment to tell you about the wonderful job Elaine is doing. We appreciate her so much. I can always tell a day when Elaine has been to the house because Mom is more engaged and cheerful when I return home. She puts in the extra effort to get Mom to talk and joke with her, which I know can be difficult with mom’s hearing impairment. Elaine checks in with me when Mom doesn’t finish lunch or if there are other things she thinks it would be helpful for me to know. I know there were a few bumps in the beginning trying to find the right fit. I feel you should know that you have an employee that really does improve my mom’s day, and that means so much to us both. The things she does around the house lightens my load so much and knowing Mom is happy too is just wonderful. I did not have an email address for Brandy or Missy if you could please forward this on to them as well.

The caregivers are hard working, empathetic, compassionate, very focused on quality care for their customers, professional, kind and flexible. I would recommend this firm for anyone needing in home care for a family member.

Brandy

In my wife's case, her dementia issues cause her to be very unsettled with unfamiliar caregivers. Brandy has done a great job scheduling caregivers that understand her and her routine.

Excellent Service

Amanda Senior Care is like having an extended family. Its caregivers are compassionate, caring and reliable. I felt that I could call on them between scheduled visits, if needed, and they would be available. James Bernoski, it's owner was very helpful in working through the logistics with my long term care insurance plan. I have been satisfied with their services and would recommend Amanda Senior Care to family and friends..

James and Michelle have been so helpful to me in guiding me in my choice of long-term care benefits. Apart from being friendly and easy to work with, they take great care in giving you the best advice and in asking the right questions that help to inform. I would recommend them to anyone looking for solutions to senior care and wanting to work with truly very thoughtful and authentic, real human beings. Bravo!!!

Senior Housing Advising

When seniors or their loved ones begin to feel that they require more support than in-home care and assistance with basic ADLs, it may be time to consider transitioning to an assisted living community.

Senior Housing Guidance and Assistance
Senior Care Housing Options

This is an emotional decision for everyone involved, and our goal at Amada Senior Care in Lexington is to guide families through the placement process with wisdom, empathy and competence.

For some seniors, an assisted living community, typically offering non-complex medical services, may be a good fit. Others may require a bit more support and may be better served in a nursing home or different type of care community.

The team at Amada Senior Care Lexington has years of experience with senior care in Lexington, Georgetown, Sadieville, Stamping Ground, Nicholasville, Richmond, Winchester, Corinth, Frankfort, Grant, Versailles, Williamstown and surrounding communities. As a result, we have deep knowledge of all local care communities and can make sure our clients find the ideal placement to suit their care needs, locations, lifestyles, and budgets.

We also rely on our extensive experience to help our clients make full use of all benefits available to them, including veterans’ benefits and Long-Term Care Insurance benefits. The costs of assisted living may intimidate many families, but we can help them make financial decisions with confidence. To further ease cost concerns, the Amada Lexington team is pleased to offer its placement services free of charge.

When in-home care is no longer ideal for our clients, we are honored to guide them through this next phase. Our specialty is referring seniors to the right community or placement for them, which may include:

  • Assisted living communities
  • Large and small communities
  • Independent living communities
  • Board and care homes
  • Adult family homes
  • Senior care homes
  • Skilled nursing facilities
  • Alzheimer/dementia communities

Veterans Assistance Programs

Many of our veterans, their spouses and their families may not be aware of their potential eligibility for financial assistance from the government. At Amada Senior Care Lexington, we are dedicated to helping individuals eligible for VA Aid and Attendance benefits and other forms of financial support take full advantage of these resources.

How is Aid and Attendance Eligibility Determined?

1. Military Service

  • A minimum of 90 days of active duty, with at least one of those days during wartime.
  • Must not have been dishonorable discharged.

2. Personal Care Needs

  • Applicant must currently require assistance with activities of daily living, such as walking, eating, toileting, or dressing.

3. Income

  • Majority of applicant’s income must currently be spent on care expenses.
  • The percentage of income currently spent on care will determine the benefits they receive.

4. Assets

  • The VA will determine an acceptable threshold for applicants’ assets.
  • Determination of financial assets will depend upon age and financial need.

How VA Aid and Attendance Benefits can Help You:

Through the use of VA benefits, seniors gain more financial flexibility for their care plans and potential placements. This may include:

  • More in-home care.
  • The community of their choice.
  • Benefits paid monthly with no repayment required.
  • Benefits are paid directly to claimants by the United States Treasury and are tax-free.

"I selected Amada Senior Care Lexington over other agencies based on high recommendations I got from several people. What I appreciate most about the services I receive is that I never have to worry that a caregiver will not show up. Each caregiver's work ethic, compassion, training and knowledge—I rate them a 10 on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being excellent. I'm happy to recommend Amada Lexington to family and friends."
